What is happening?
- Lamen and Lemuel repent. (It doesn't even last a whole chapter!)
- Nephi breaks his bow. His whole family (even Lehi) begin to question God. They complain and murmur.
- Nephi makes a new bow. He asks his father where he should go to get food. Lehi repents and finds where Nephi should go. No one starves :)
- Ishmael dies. The wicked brothers murmur again. They want to kill Nephi and Lehi, but are stopped by an angel.
How does this apply to my life?
- I feel so bad for them during this chapter. It would be so hard for the boys to not be able to provide food for their families. Especially at this time they are traveling in the wilderness, their wives are pregant, and their family is getting tired. I just can't imagine. I pray that I will never have to be worried about providing food for my family. I know that it will probably happen at some point, but I hope that we are living our lives in such a way that we will not have to go hungry.
- Poor Lehi. Even he reaches his breaking point. He has kept the faith for so long and yet once the food runs out he murmurs. Now you see where Lamen and Lemuel get it. But he comes back very quickly.
- Nephi keeps the faith. Again, I don't know how he does it. Imagine all the stress of not being able to supply for your family and then having your brothers be angry with you. He just remains faithful and calm in the whole situation.
Vs. 29- "And there was also written upon them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which did give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord; and it was written and changed from time to time, according to the fiath and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things."
I just love this scripture. It really is true. Little things throughout this chapter and all of the scriptures have a big impact on the big picture. It just makes me hope that I can be that small and simple thing to someone else to bring to past something great. TO bring someone to the gospel.
