Last chapter of the night. It is so funny because as I am finishing this chapter, I want to continue reading. But, I will have to continue tomorrow.
What is happening?
- Lehi asks his sons to go back to Jeruselum to get the plates (Laban has them).
- Nephi says he will gladly 'go and do' while Lamen and Lemuel murmur (again).
- Lamen tried to get the plates from Laben, but failed. They tried trading their riches for the plates, but failed.
- Lamen and Lemuel got mad a Nephi because of their failure and smite him and Sam with a rod. An angel comes down and stops them. Still they don't have faith.
How does this apply to my life?
- I know that I don't always have that "go and do" attitude that Nephi has. I am trying to get better. I am working on it day by day.
- Again, am I a Lamen and Lemuel or a Nephi and Sam?
- Do I understand who is on my side? Do I trust God enough to have faith that everything will work out.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Again, I have a few favorite verses.
Vs. 5
"And now, behold thy brothers murmur, saying it is a hard thing which I have required of them; but behold I have not required it of them, but it is a commandment of the Lord."
I love this verse because sometimes I forget where commandments are coming from. I will admit that it is not easy to follow the words of a God that we can't see. I can see for a minute Lamen and Lemuel's point of view. But them I remember my own testimony of God. I know sometimes we don't understand all of the commandments that God gives us, but we need to remember that He is after all God. He knows what is best for us, even if we don't think so.
Vs. 31
"And after the angel had departed, Laman and Lemuel again began to murmur, saying: How is it possible that the Lord will deliever Laben into our hands? Behold, he is a might man and he can command fifty, yea, even he can say fifty; then why not us?"
One of the reasons I love this scripture is because of something I wrote beside the last line. Who is on your side? These five simple words say so much. Really, these brothers are not in the best situation. They are trying to get something from one of the most powerful
man in the world. Notice emphasis on man. He is a man after all. He can command fifty, slay fifty. But look at Heavenly Father. He can command a lot more than fifty and slay more that that if He wanted to. We are blessed enough to be on the right side of this battle, no matter what foe we face.
