Day 24- Reflection

Wow...I completed three books in one night! Yay! Granted, they are all one chapter long...still, I feel accomplished.

I just want to take a moment and testify of the Lord's hand in my life. I know that I do not thank Him enough, but this week I truly have seen Him help me through some trying times. I am so grateful for my faith and my knowledge to recognize these simple actions.

Let me express my week in a song that has gotten be through a lot of tough situations...

Day 24- Omni 1

What is happening?
  1. Omni, Amaron, Chemish, Abinadom, and Amaleki each record in this book.
  2. They discover the people of Zarahemla.
  3. The Mulekites discovered Coriantumr.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 26 "And now, my beloeved brethern, I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yeah, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him and continue in fasting and praying and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved."
I love this. This is like the recipe to Eternal Salvation. It is that simple. Okay, it is really not all that simple, but this verse really puts it simply. We believe in Christ, fast, pray, and endure to the end and we can be saved.

Day 24- Jarom 1

What is happening?
  1. Jarom writes the words according to the commandment of his father (Enos)
  2. The prophets teach about Christ.
  3. The Nephites prosper.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Like I will discuss later, isn't the message always the same? It is always about Christ. I think I hear repetition hear...am I listening?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 11 "Wherefore, the prophets, and the priests, and the teachers, did labor diligently, exhorting with all long-suffering the peole to diligence; teaching the law of Moses, and the intent for which it was given; persuading them to look forward unto the Messiah, and believe in him to come as though he already was. And after this manner did they teach them."
I love this because is this not what the prophets are doing now? Are they not prophesying that Jesus Christ will come again and that we should have faith in Him even though we haven't seen Him? The message is a few hundred years apart, but it is still the same. It is always about Christ.

Day 24- Enos 1

What is happening?
  1. Enos prays to God all the day long. His sins are forgiven
  2. The Lord does according to Enos's faith.
  3. The Lamanites will gain salvation in the future.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I really need to have more faith like Enos. It never says that Enos did not have faith prior to these experiences. In fact, he probably did have faith considering that hsi father taught him these things. But you can never be done with faith. It is something that continues to grow. Whether you are a little weak one like me or the prophet.
  2. I really want to have more faith in my life. I feel like I do not have enough of it. I pray every day that I may have a stronger testimony.
  3. Wouldn't I love to have the Lord come and tell me that all of my sins are forgiven?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 12 "And it came to pass that after I had prayed and labored with all diligence, the Lord said unto me; I will grant unto thee according to thy desires because of thy faith."
In my scriptures I have this written "Blessings come after faith". I really like this idea that Heavenly Father will give us what we want/need AFTER we show that we have faith. It is not unto Enos has prayed and labored with ALL diligence that he is granted his desires. I need to show better faith in this idea. I need to work harder in my faith.

Day 23- Jacob 7

What is happening?
  1. Sherem teaches that there will be no Christ. Jacob and Sherem have a fun converstation.
  2. Sherem demands to see a sign and gets his sign.
  3. The prophets testify of Christ.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Don't tempt God for signs. It never turns out well.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 11 "And I said unto him: Then ye do not understand them; for they truly testify of Christ. Behold, I say unto you that none of the prophets have written, nor prophesied, save they have spoken concerning this Christ."
I love this. It is so true. Even now days, I can not think of a time when an General Authority has gotten up to speak and not brought up Christ. That is because there is a Christ. He is our Savior. He atoned for us. These are facts that once you know the truth, you can not deny.

Day 23- Jacob 6

What is happening?
  1. Christ will come again a second time.
  2. The world will be burned with fire.
  3. If you do not follow Christ, you will also burn.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Do I want to be burned? No. Simple as that.
  2. I love hearing about Christ's Second Coming, but it is also scary. I want to know if I am living my life the way that I need to in order to be saved at this last day. I am doing everything I can to live the right way.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 12 "O be wise; what can I say more?"
I love this verse! It is actually one of my favorites in the Book of Mormon. Jacob things that this is his last chapter and these are the words he leaves us with. Everything will be okay if we are but wise. That is all we have to do!

Day 22- Jacob 5

What is happening?
  1. Allegory of the Olive Trees
Favorite Verse? Why?
I honestly can't pick a verse that is my favorite because they all apply to each other. I just wanted to say how much I love the love and care that the master of the Vineyard puts into each and every tree. You can see the patience he has and the knowledge of the tree's full potential. This is just like us. Christ can see our full potential and he works with us (through the good times and the bad) to make us the best we can be. In the end, we need to know which side we are going to be on. Are we a tree that bares good fruit or bad fruit?

Day 22- Jacob 4

What is happening?
  1. Jacob puts great effort and work into writing down these words.
  2. Prophets counsel the Lord.
  3. Jacob will unfold this mystery unto us.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love the scriptures about Prophets. They really do testify of our day.
  2. I am so grateful for Jacob and all the other prophets. Without them, I would be nothing.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 3 “Now in this thing we do rejoice; and we labor diligently to engraven these words upon plates, hoping that our beloved brethren and our children will receive them with thankful hearts, and look upon them that they may learn with joy and not with sorrow, neither with contempt, concerning their first parents."
This scripture makes me so much more grateful for the Book of Mormon. To know the work that went into making sure that these words were preserved just amazes me! I also love that Jacob wants us to look upon these words with joy. He wants us to be happy and he knows that these words can make us happy.

Day 21- Jacob 3

What is happening?
  1. Nephites become bad. Lamanites become righteous. Yay!
  2. The pure in heart will get blessings from God.
  3. Jacob warns of the different kinds of sins.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I relaly love verse 1. I am going to expound on it below.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 1 "But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause, and send down justice upon those who seek your destruction."
This just makes me feel so happy. This makes me feel hopeful. I sometimes feel I am alone, but I know that I am not. This scripture shows that. It puts all of my beliefs into one verse. Especially recently when my honestly was being questioned, I prayed to Heavenly Father that He would help me. I think that this scripture really rang true in my own life. I love it.

Day 21- Jacob 2

What is happening?
  1. Jacob speaks with much boldness to the people.
  2. He talks about pride (didn't we see this coming?).
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Like I said before, I think that I really need to watch my pride. I don't want to think I am better than someone, because I am not. I want to become more like Christ. I want to give my all to those in need.
  2. Again, I love Jacob. He reminds me of President Holland- speaking with much boldness, but having a powerful message.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 18-19 "But before ye see for riches, seek ye for the kingdom of God. And after ye have obtained a hope  in Christ ye shall obtain riches if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good--to cloth the naked, to feed the hungry, to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted."
This really describes Christ in a nutshell. He didn't have much, but all that He had was given. I don't want to be rich. I want to be well off, I have to admit that, but I want to make sure that I am giving of as much as I can to help others as Christ would if He were physically here. I am the hands of Christ.

Day 21- Jacob 1

YAY! We have made it to Jacob! :)

What is happening?
  1. Jacob is given charge of the plates and commanded to write the things that will convert people to come unto Christ.
  2. Nephi dies :(
  3. Pride shows up among the Nephites.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. In verse 16, it says that they are 'lifted up somewhat in pride'. This shows the beginning of the pride cycle. A little pride always leads to more if it isn't watched. It isn't something you can stop unless you make a concious effort. I think this is something I really need to watch in my life. I need to make sure I am watching for pride because I do not want to get caught up in all of it.
  2. Jacob might be one of my favorite prophets. He is just so honest. I am excited to read through his words again.
  3. It is sad to see Nephi die, but I am excited to someday meet him. I am excited to talk to him about his experiences.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 8 "Wherefore we would to God that we could persuade all men not to rebel against God, to provoke him to anger, but that all men would believe in Christ, and view his death, and suffer his cross and bear the shame of the world; wherefore, I Jacob, take it upon me to fulfil the commandment of my brother Nephi."
I love how seriously Jacob is taking this call. This is the kind of man I want to marry. A man that takes the commandments of God seriously and has a strong testimony.

Day 20- 2 Nephi 33

What is happening?
  1. Nephi's words are of great worth.
  2. His words testify of Christ.
  3. He makes an end of speaking.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 15 "For what I seal on earth, shall be brought against you at the judgment bar; for thus hath the Lord commanded me, and I must obey. Amen"
This verse is one of the saddest ones for me. I love Nephi. It is so hard having him close his book. Also, I love the fact that he says we will be responsible for the things that are testified in his words. It is so true! We have the truth. We are reading the Book of Mormon (obviously). This means we are held accountable in Heaven whether we acted on these words or not.

Day 20- 2 Nephi 32

What is happening?
  1. The Holy Ghost will speak unto the words of Christ.
  2. Pray always.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I think that these are two very important ideals to have in my life. I need to have a better relationship with the Holy Ghost. I need to do things that encourage his presence in my life.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 9 "But behold, I saw unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint: that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye sahll pray unto the Father in the name of Christ; the he will concencrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul."
I love this. I need to pray more often to have the Lord help my performance, instead of just times in which I am needy.

Day 20- 2 Nephi 31

What is happening?
  1. Christ was baptized to fulfil the commandment. He was being an example of what we are supposed to be.
  2. We are to endure to the end.
  3. We can be saved through Christ
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love these verses because they bring me such hope. I learn a lot about my Savior and His Character. I am so lucky to have the knowledge I do.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 15 "And I heard a voice from the Father, saying: Yea, the words of my Beloved are true and faithful. He that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved."
I love this! Because I know that this is true, it can give me comfort in times when I am feeling down. It just makes me happy.

Day 19- 2 Nephi 30

What is happening?
  1. Many gentiles shall be converted.
  2. The Lamanites and Jews will also believe in Christ again
  3. The wicked will be destroyed.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Do I want to be happy or do I want to be destroyed? The answer is not hard. In fact, I know which side I want to be on. I am trying everyday to become closer to that side.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 5 "And the gospel of Jesus Christ shall be declared among them; wherefore, they sahll be restored unto the knowledge of their fathers, and also to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, which was had among their fathers."
I know that the Church is true. I know it and I can not deny it. It is in every fiber of my being. It is who I am.

Day 19- 2 Nephi 29

What is happening?
  1. Many people reject the Book of Mormon.
  2. They think that they already have a Bible, why do they need more?
  3. The Lord speaks to multiple nations to prove His words.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I think that this is so amazing to read. It is definately the argument that people have when you try to tell them about the Book of Mormon. They think they know it all just by reading the Bible, but they are not. Little do they know.
  2. Heavenly Father is just so smart. Obviously He is, but this just goes to show it!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 7 "Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isle of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?"
I love this explainatin of why we have the Book of Mormon and the Bible. It just makes sense! There are more people that need to know the word, so of course God is going to reveal it to more than one person!

Day 19- 2 Nephi 28

What is happening?
  1. Many false churches are built up.
  2. The devil has many of the hearts of men.
  3. The devil shall teach false doctrine and many people will believe him.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Sound a lot like our day??
  2. I need to be careful. I can not let Satan have a hold of me.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 30 "For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for thye shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have."
I never want to think that I know enough. I want to continue to keep learning. I am so lucky to be reading this book and learning more every single day.

Day 18- 2 Nephi 27

What is happening?
  1. Nephi sees the abomination of the the Gentiles.
  2. He sees the church restored (three witnesses).
  3. A marvelous work and a wonder will come forth.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love seeing the history of the church a thousand of years before it happened! It is amazing to know that Nephi is a prophet. He truly saw our day.
  2. I love the church. :)
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 35 "They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine."
I love seeing that everyone will understand these words. It is just marvelous to me! Infact, it is a "marvelous work among the people, yea, a marvelous work and a wonder" (vs. 26). I just love it! I love that the church is true. I love that I know that the church is true. I just love it.

Day 18- 2 Nephi 26

What is happening?
  1. Nephi sees that Christ will come visit the Nephites.
  2. He sees the distruction of his people.
  3. The Gentiles become prideful and create false churches.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Can you imagine being Nephi right now? Seeing all this distruction? It would just be completely depressing! He acts all calm about it, but I think I would go crazy if I had to actually see my great great great grandkids killed. It would be horrible.
  2. These verses sound a lot like our day...interesting...
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 24 "He doeith not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth noe that shall not partake of his salvation."
I love this description of Christ. It just makes me so happy to know that He has our best interest in mind! :)

Day 17- I got it done

I feel totally sick today, but I wanted to make sure that I got in my scripture reading. So here it is. It is done.

Day 17- 2 Nephi 25

What is happening?
  1. The Jews will crucify the Messiah.
  2. They shall be scattered, but they will be restored when they believe in the Messiah.
  3. The Nephites believe in Christ.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. The Nephites have faith in someone that they never see, yet when the Jews have Christ right in front of them they mock him and even end of crucifying Him. This doesn't really make any sense. You think that it would be the other way around when it is eaiser to believe something right in front of you instead of something that is predicted will happen.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 8 "Wherefore, they are of worth unto the children of men and he that supposedth that they are not unto them will I speak particularly, and confine the words unto mine own people; for I know that they shall be of great worth unto them in the last days; for in that day shall they understand them; wherefore, for their good have I written them."
Again, I didn't understand like any of the words of Isaiah. I feel really bad about this, but I feel like as I continue to study them they will make more and more sense. I just need to have faith that I will get out of them what I need to get out of them.

Day 17- 2 Nephi 24

What is happening?
  1. Israel will be gathered.
  2. Story of how Satan was thrown out of Heaven because he rebelled.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 7 "The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet; they break forth in singing."
I wish I could live in a world like this. It sounds so nice. In our world there is all this extra noise and hustle and bustle. To be at rest with not a care in the world. That is what I want.

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Day 16- Thoughts

I have just finished Day 16 and wanted to say how much closer I feel to God because of this challenge. I feel like because I am doing this on a blog, I am held more accountable. In fact, I knew I would not have time tonight to read so I made sure to get it done this morning.
So 16 days are now complete. I am excited that I have been able to do this and not miss a day yet! :)

Day 16- 2 Nephi 23

What is happening?
  1. Describes the destruction of the Second Coming
  2. The wicked will be punished
  3. He will be merciful unto his people, but the wicked shall perish.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. It is kind of scary to read through these verses. For the past several chapters I have said that I would love nothing more than to be here in that day, but then reading through these scriptures I don't know if I do. All of the destruction that happens....I don't know if I want to witness that.

Day 16- 2 Nephi 22

What is happening?
  1. In the Millenial day, all will praise God.
  2. He is known of all the earth.
  3. Christ shall dwell in the midst of us.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Again, I want to be here in that day! It sounds amazing. For Christ to be there is just one more draw towards me living worthily now to be there in that day.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 2 "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation."
I love this. I know that I have trusted God in the past with some really hard things, but I need to trust in Him always. In good times and in bad. It is not always easy to trust. I need to get better at this.

Day 16- 2 Nephi 21

What is happening?
  1. God will judge in righteousness
  2. The knowledge of God will go to the whole earth at the Millenium.
  3. God will raise an ensign and gather Israel.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I want to be here at that day. I want to see all of these events transpire. I need to live my life now the way that it needs to be lived so that in that day I will be worthy.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 9 "They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."
I love this! This day will be so glorious. To have everyone know of the truthfulness of the gospel. Yes. It will be a good day.

Day 16- 2 Nephi 20

What is happening?
  1. Wo unto the wicked
  2. Few peole will be left after the Lord comse again.
  3. The lost tribes will return.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I want to be one of the people who is left. I don't want to be destroyed. I want to see the lost tribes come again. In order to be here, I have live my life as He wants me to live. I am trying to do that everyday.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 27 "And it shall come to pass in that day that his burden shall be taken away from off they shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing."
I think that this is referring to the Atonement. Christ takes our burdens as his own. I think that this is an amazing concept. I am so grateful for it! :)

Day 16- 2 Nephi 19

What is happening?
  1. Christ is born.
  2. The people that walked in darkness will see a great light.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Again, this is an Isaiah chapter. I love this chapter though because it includes the line that is in the Messiah by Handel. "For unto us a child is born..." That is one of my favorite songs!
  2. We need to shine a light to those in darkness.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 2 "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath thelight shined."
This is what we need to do.. We need to be that light that those in the darkness can see. They can come to us and we can comfort them.

Monday, October 22, 2012

Day 15- Birthday Happiness

I know that this has nothing to do with my Book of Mormon Challenge, but I thought I would take a moment to write 20 things that I have a testimony of.
  1. Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. He suffered for our sins, our trials, and our troubles.
  2. Families can be together of. I am so grateful that I got stuck with a great family for all eternity. I can not imagine even one day without them!
  3. Heavenly Father is very aware of our circumstances. He puts us into the situations that we need to be put into.
  4. Heavenly Father answers prayers. They may not be loud answers, but quiet feelings.
  5. Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon. I am so grateful for this. Going through this challenge is making me even more grateful.
  6. The Book of Mormon is true. It is filled with all the right stuff. :)
  7. President Monson is a true prophet. He speaks the words of God to us today. I am grateful for this connection to God.
  8. The Priesthood is restored. I am so glad that I grew up in a home where the Priesthood was held worthily.
  9. I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for us.
  10. The Holy Ghost is here to comfort us and help us know what to do.
  11. There is a life after this one. We are the ones who determine how good or bad that life is.
  12. I know that God speaks through us not only through feelings, but also as we read our scriptures. He gives us the answers to our questions through the things we read.
  13. Jesus Christ loves us. I know I kind of already covered this one, but I know He would have gone through the atonement if it had just been me.
  14. Jesus Christ will come again. It will be a wonderful day.
  15. The Gospel is true. There is nothing that is going to stop it from spreading to all of the world.
  16. We are made in God's image.
  17. Heavenly Father will never put something onto us that we cannot handle.
  18. I know that my family loves me. I am so lucky to have them in my life.
  19. Heavenly Father gave His Son for us because He loves us.
  20. I am a daughter of God. He loves me. I am of infinate worth, even though sometimes I don't feel like it.
Well...now I am off to bed. Another year older and another year wiser. :)

Day 15- Lots of Short Chapters

Today was hard because there were a lot of short chapters to go through. Not only that, but they were Isaiah chapters. I am trying hard for understanding in these chapters. I pray that I may get more out of them because I know they are important. They would not have been included if they were not important. Now, it is my duty to figure out why...

I am sorry...I really like posting pictures recently! :)

Day 15- 2 Nephi 18

What is happening?
  1. Seek God. Otherwise, he will be like a stumbling block.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I know which side I need to be on.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 22 "And they shall look unto the earth and behold trouble, and darkness, dimness of anguish, and shall be driven to darkness"
This is just an intersting verse to read. It makes me think back to Lehi's vision and the people that went into darkness because they were embarrased. And the people that went into darkness because they didn't know what they were missing out on. I think it is our duty to look for these people. They are the lost lamb. We are to help the Shepherd. He needs us. Through us, miracles can take place.

Day 15- 2 Nephi 17

What is happening?
  1. Ephraim and Syra will fight against Judah.
  2. Christ will be born of a virgin.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I am not going to pretend that I understand everything that happend here. I think it is interesting to read and I wish that I could understand it more.
  2. I love hearing about Christ and His birth- especially because this is 600 years before He will be born. I wonder what the people thought of this prophecy.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs.14 "Thefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign--Behold, a vergin shall conceive, and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
Again, I love hearing about Christ. I think this is just such a miracle to hear about this event away from Jeruselum and 600 years before it would happen!

Day 15- 2 Nephi 16

What is happening?
  1. Isaiah sees God and his sins are forgiven.
  2. He is called to prophesy.
  3. He tells of Christ's teachings being rejected by the Jews.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I can't imagine rejecting Christ. It makes me wonder what I would do if I had been born into a different situation. If I hadn't of been born to an LDS family. I hope that I would have found the church some how and joined it. But there is no way to be sure.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 7 "And he laid it upon my mouth, and said: Lo, this has touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and they sin purged."
I wish that repentence was that simple. I realize that it is a lot easier than what Christ had to go through for our sins and I am so grateful for that, but still. I wish that I could have that moment with God- to know that I am completely white again.

Day 15- 2 Nephi 15

What is happening?
  1. Vineyard analogy
  2. Israel will become scattered
  3. The Lord will lift an ensign to the nation.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I think this is so interesting. It is harder to understand because it is one of he Isaiah chapters, but it is so interesting!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 26 "And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the endof the earth; and behold, they shall come with speed swiftly; none shall be weary nor stumble among them."
I love this. When the Lord declares something, I listen.

Day 15- 2 Nephi 14

What is happening?
  1. Zion will be cleansed at the millenium
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I want to live worthy so that I can be here in that day.
Favorite Verse? Why?'
Vs.2 "In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious; the fruit of the earth excellent and comely to them that are escaped of Israel."
This is a lot more positive than Chapter 14! I can't wait for this day when the earth will be clean again.

Vs. 6 "And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and a covert from storm and from rain."
I love this! I love that the temple is there for us to go to. I need to use it more often.

Day 15- 2 Nephi 13

What is happening?
  1. Judah and Jerualem shall be punished.
  2. God will judge his people.
  3. The daughters of Zion are cursed. They are tormented for their worldliness.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. This is a very intersting chapter. It is hard because it is so short to get a lot out of it. one point that I find very intersting is the description of the daughers of zion. It sounds just like women now! It is sad.

Day 15- Quick Thought

I love going to a wonderful university where I can watch videos like this in class. I am so lucky to have the knowledge that I do. I am grateful for my Savior. I love Him. He is what gives me hope. He is the reason why I am here today.

Day 14- 2 Nephi 12

What is happening?
  1. We see the Salt Lake Temple.
  2. Israel will be gathered again.
  3. The proud and the wicked will suffer at the Second Coming.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love seeing the temple. It is interesting because in the scriptures, U.T.A.H is spelled down the side. I will see if I can get a picture to post on here.
  2. I know that I will play an important part in the gathering of Israel, so I know that this is something that I have to take to heart.
  3. I need to humble myself. I need to become a better person.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 2 "And it shall come to pass in the last days, when the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall folw unto it."
We learned in my Book of Mormon class that this refers to the Salt Lake Temple, but I think that it can be applied to any temple as well. I love the temple so much. I do not go to the temple enough, I know that I need to get better at that.

Day 14- 2 Nephi 11

This is a short chapter today!

What is happening?
  1. Jacob has seen Christ.
  2. The church will be restored with three witnesses.
  3. Christ will come again!
  4. We are to liken the words of Isaiah unto us.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I want to see Christ so badly. I know that I probably will not see Him until death or the second coming, which ever comes first. It doesn't change the fact that I want to see Him. So I seek him in my life through prayer and scripture study.
  2. I love hearing about the chruch being restored. I would have loved to been in the room when they were translating this chapter! :)
  3. I know that Christ will come again. I know that He is my Savior. He died for our sins. He will come again.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs.4 "Behold, my soul delighteth in my proving unto my people the truth of the coming of Christ; for, for this end hath the law of Moses been given of God from the beginning of the world, unto man, are the typifying of him."
I want so badly to be out there spreading the truth about Christ. I am trying to do in every day. Right now is not the right time for me to go on a mission, so I will give my life to God here for what he has in store for me.

Day 14- 2 Nephi 10

What is happening?
  1. Jesus Christ will be crucified by the Jews.
  2. America will be a land of liberty and freedom.
  3. Those who come to God will receive salvation.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Again, I love how Jesus Chris is involved. I love hearing about the atonement, even though it hurts me. I wand to understand it.
  2. I love hearing the history of America! I love knowing that I am in a free land. A land that I can practice my religion freely.
  3. I need to come to God. I need to trust Him more.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 20 "And now, my beloved brethern, seeing that our merciful God has given us so great knowledge concerning these things, let us remember him, and lay aside our sins, and not hang down our heads, for we are not cast off; nevertheless, we have been driven out of the land of our inheritance; but we have been led to a better land, for the Lord has made the sea our path, and we are upon an isle of the sea."
I love knowing that God is merciful. I would not be able to handle life if I didn't know this fact. I know that I can repent of my sins and I know I should do it more often than I do. I am so grateful for the knowledge I have.

Day 13- I feel my Savior's Love

I just want to say again how grateful I am to have the Lord in my life. He knows the way things should work out. Even when times are hard, we have to maintain an eternal perspective about life. This will last for only a moment. There are greater things in store. I cannot wait for the day when I can hug my Savior. I cannot wait for the day I can weep at His feet. I know that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father love me...
What else matters?

Day 13- 2 Nephi 9

What is happening?
  1. Explaination of Jesus Christ's Atonement
  2. Judgement shall come.
  3. The righteous will be saved in God's kingdom
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love these verses that bring me closer to my Savior. I love understanding His great sacrifice. I love Him so much and I want to thank Him for everything He has done for me. I feel like by understanding more of His sacrifice is a way for me to truly show gratitude!
  2. I want to be one of the righteous that will be saved!
  3. I know I am not perfect, but I am grateful for the Atonement and the ability to become better. I am glad that I have a brother who helps me to be worthy to be saved in God's Kingdom.

Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 10 "Oh how great the goodness of our God, who prepareth a way for our escape from the grasp of this awful monster; yea that moster, death and hell, which I call the death of the body, and also the death of the spirit"
Vs. 21 " And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam.
Like I said earlier, I love the verses that bring me closer to my Savior. I love learning more about the Atonement. Everytime I learn about it, I feel like I can use it better. I am so grateful for this sacrifice. I love Jesus Christ. I know that He atoned for us. I know that He died so that we all can live again. Words can not even describe.

Vs. 39 "O, my beloved breather, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of the cunning one. Remember, to be carnally-minded is death and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal. (SMILE!) :)
I love this scripture because it spells out smile. I want to be happy. I want to be more spiritually minded! :)

Day 13- 2 Nephi 8

What is happening?
  1. At the last days, the Lord shall gather Israel.
  2. Jesus Christ will come to Zion.
  3. The Wicked will suffer
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love hearing the history of the world. I have said this multiple times. When they were telling the stories of the past, it was great. But now they are telling the stories of the now and the future. I will be here for it. I will experience it.
  2. Now I just have to live worthy so that I can be there at that day!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 3 "For the Lord shall comfort Zion; he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving and the voice of melody."
I don't know why, but this scripture just gives me faith. I feel like I am a desert and the Lord will make me into a garden. I try to give my life to Him. I want Him to mold me into what I need to be. He does this through my happy times and my sad. It is a hard thing to remember, but to know the one molding me is perfect gives me hope and faith.

Day 12- 2 Nephi 7

What is happening?
  1. Reading of Isaiah.
  2. Jesus Christ has the tongue of the learned.
  3. He will not hide his face from shame and spitting.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love learning more about my Savior. It makes me feel closer to him. I want to get to know him better.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 8-11 "And the Lord is near, and he justifieth me. Who will contend with me? Let us stand together. Who is mine adversary? Let him come near me, and I will smite him with the strength of my mouth. For the Lord God will help me. And all they who shall condemn me, behold, all they shall wax old as a garment, and the moth shall eat them up. Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness and hath no light? Behold all ye that kindle fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks, walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks which ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand--ye shall lie down in sorrow."
I just love these passages. I love knowing that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is there for me. I love knowing that when I have problems, they will help me. When they are on my side, who can I not go against?

Day 12- 2 Nephi 6

What is happening?
  1. Jacob is speaking to the people of Nephi.
  2. He reads he words of Isaiah to the people and encourage the people to liken the scriptures unto them.
  3. The Gentiles shall repent. The Messiah will come a second time.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love it when Jacob speaks. He is one of my favorite prophets.
  2. I want to live my life in a way that I will be able to be present for this great day when Christ shall come again. I want to be right there. I want Him to look into my eyes and tell me that He is proud of me.
  3. I need to repent and not be hard hearted or stiff necked.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 14 " And behold, according to the words of the prophet, the Messiah will set himself again the second time to recover them; wherefore, he will manifest himself unto them in power and great glory, unto the destruction of their enemies, when that day cometh when they shall believe in him; and none will he destroy that believe in him."
I love hearing testimony that Christ shall come again. It gives me faith and hope for the future. I pray that I will be prepared when this day comes.

Day 12- 2 Nephi 5

What is happening?
  1. Lamen and Lemual get mad at Nephi.
  2. Nephi takes his family, Zoram, Sam, Jacob, Joseph, their families, his sisters, and all those who did go with him and left.
  3. Nephi's people keep the commandments and did prosper exceedingly. The Lord curses the people of Lamen and Lemuel.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Was Nephi scared? Were his sisters/wife scared? What did they think to seperate from the other side of the family.
  2. Would I have enough faith to leave my brothers, no matter how much I hated them?
  3. How can I be more like the people of Nephi?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 31 "Wherefore, I, Nephi, to be obedient to the commandments of the Lord, went and made these plates upon which I have engraven these things."
Again, I love that Nephi is obedient. They are able to be successful when they are keeping the commandments. I want to be obedient. I want to have the Lord with me! Always.

Day 11- 2 Nephi 4

What is happening?
  1. Lehi blesses all of his posterity again. He dies.
  2. Lamen and Lemuel get mad at Nephi, again. Big surprise.
  3. Neph talks about what a wretched man he is (yeah right!). He talks about putting off the natural man and trusting more in God.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I need to trust in the Lord ALWAYS! Not just in times of trouble, but in times of goodness as well. He is always there for me so I need to always be trusting in Him.
  2. What would I want to leave with my posterity before I die?
  3. If Nephi feels like he needs help putting off the natural man, then I definately need to!!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 31 "Oh Lord, wilt though redeem my soul? Will thou deliver me out of the hands of mine enemies? Will though make me that I may shake at the appearance of sin?"
I think this is a wonderful scripture because it really is applicable to my life right now. I sometimes feel like I am so alone. I feel like there is no one there to answer me. But then remember that I can call on the Lord. He is always there fore me. He always has been there for me. I love that I am getting a closer relationship with Him and that He is helping me through my trials at this exact moment.

Day 11- 2 Nephi 3

What is happening?
  1. Lehi is speaking to his last born, Joseph.
  2. Talks about Joseph of Egypt.
  3. A seerer will be raised up named Joseph (aka Joseph Smith) and shall translate the Book of Mormon.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Again, I love hearing the history. I love seeing that Lehi was a prophet and that he really did see these things before they happened.
  2. I love that Joseph Smith is mentioned. I can't imagine how that would feel to be translating and find out that this scripture is about you.
  3. I know that God speaks to prophets both then and now!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 24 "And there shall rise up one mighty among them, who shall do much good, both in word and in deed, being an instrument in the hands of God, with exceeding faith, to work mighty wonders, and do that thing which is great in the sight of God, unto the bringing to pass much restoration unto the house of Israel, and unto the seed of thy brothern."
I love hearing this. I love that I am reading the book that this scripture is written about. I love that I truly know that Joseph Smith did translate this book by the power of God. I know the Book of Mormon is true. I am so grateful that I am doing this challenge. I feel like in the past 11 days I have gotten to know this book better and have become closer to God because of it.

Day 10- 2 Nephi 2

What is happening?
  1. Lehi speaks to Jacob (who is more of a Nephi then a Lamen and Lemuel)
  2. Men are free.
  3. We would not be able to be happy without agency.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love Jacob! I can't wait to get to his bookin another 10 days! :)
  2. I love that we have agency. In this chapter, Lehi references Genesis and talks about the fall of Lucifer. I think it is so great to see the study that Lehi put in and to see him referencing these things.
  3. I think it is interesting logic that we could not be happy without agency. It makes sense, but it is still a little confusing. We can't be happy unless we know what sadness is and we can't know sadness without being able to make a wrong choice. It is just an interesting ideal. Heavenly Father wants us to be happy. That is why He gave us freedom. I can't imagine how hard that was for Him- to give all control to us so that we can be happy.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 26 "And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God hath given."
Again, I love this idea of freedom. I love that Jesus Christ made this freedom possible for us. I am so glad that Heavenly Father chose Jesus Christ over Satan. Otherwise, we would not be miserable, but not be happy either.

Day 10- 2 Nephi 1

What is happening?
  1. Lehi talks about the land of inheritance (the Americas) and the consequences for not remaining faithful.
  2. His seed shall be scattered because they do not remain faithful.
  3. He pleads with Lamen and Lemuel to remain faithful. (Do you think they listen)
  4. We are known that Zoram is a great friend (a "true friend) to Nephi.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Again, I think it is amazing to see the history of this great country from the eyes of the people who first settled it. Yes, we have accounts from Jamestown, etc., but these are some of the first people to ever set foot on this land.
  2. I want to know how Lamen and Lemuel can't remain faithful after all they have gone through. They built a boat, traveled across a stormy sea, and landed on a land that was better than any they have seen before. Come on! Of course the hand of the Lord was involved in that somewhere!
  3. I love tha Zoram is refered to as a "true friend" because I am sure that they were worried about him at first. He was, after all, the servent of Laban. But he changed his ways. He became a good man and apparently someone that Nephi really trust (even more so then his brothers).
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 7 "Wherefore, this land is consecrated unto him whom he shall bring. And if it so be that they shall serve him according to the commandments which he hath given, it shall be a land of liberty unto them; wherefore, they shall never be brough down into captivity; if so, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall abound cursed shall be the land for their sakes, but unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever."
I love this verse because it shows what is going to happen to the Lamen and Lemuel's poserity hunreds of years later. Also, I love that there is security for us. Even though there is a lot of iniquity on this land, for the righteous it shall be blessed forever. I am so glad. I am so lucky to live in the promised land of old.

Day 9- 1 Nephi DOWN!

YAY!
Not only have I been doing this for over a week...I am done with 1 Nephi!
I have to say that reading the Book of Mormon like this, I feel more connected with the character. I feel like I can see Nephi more. I cannot wait for the day when I can talk to him about these things that are written and thank him for his dedication! :)

Day 9- 1 Nephi 22

What is happening?
  1. Israel will be scattered.
  2. The time cometh that Satan shall have no power over us.
  3. Satan will be bound and the church of the devil will fall.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I think it is interesting to read these scriptures and to see them being fulfilled in our day.
  2. I cannot wait for the day that Satan will have no power over us. I pray that this will be when I am raising my children because it will make life so much easier!
  3. I always wonder why Satan keeps trying. He knows that he is going to lose. Why try when you are going to fail? He wants to get as many souls to be miserable with him.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 26 "And because of the righteousness of his people, Satan has no power; wherefore, he cannot be loosed for the space of many years; for he hath no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigneth."
This may seem like a really weird scripture to like. The reason why I like it so much is because even though Satan is bound, the only reason why he is bound is because of the righteouness of the people. It is not that he doesn't have the power to tempt us, he just doesn't have the power to succeed because of the righteous desires that are in the hearts of the people. I think that this is just amazing. I would love to live in this day. Have everyone know that the Gospel is true and to want to live good lives! We do not have that now. At least it is something to aim for. For now, I must make so Satan has no power over me. This is the kind of woman I want to be...

Day 9- 1 Nephi 21

What is happening?
  1. The Savior shall come and be a light to the Gentiles.
  2. He will not forget us because we are graven upon the palms of his hands.
  3. Israel shall be gathered in the last days.
How does this apply to my life?
  1.   I love that this is again testifying of Christ. I know that it is compared to Isaiah 49, but I think it is great to have another testiment here in the Book of Mormon.
  2. The gathering of Israel is not far off...am I ready for it?
  3. I love how much I can feel the Savior's love here. I will discuss it more below.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs 15-16 "For can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee, O house of Israel. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; they walls are continually before me."
Again, I love how much I can feel Jesus Christ's love for me as an individual. I have heard the saying that even if I was the only person alive, He would have still suffered for me. That is how much He loves me as an individual. He cannot forget ME because I am graven upon his hands. I think that is amazing. It is also inspiring to do good in the world so that Christ does not have to suffer more for my sins. I hate doing things that cause Him pain.

Monday, October 15, 2012

Day 8- 1 Nephi 20

What is happening?
  1. The Lord shows his purposes to Israel
  2. They have been chosen.
  3. They are to go forth from Babylon

How does this apply to my life?
  1. I am going to be completely honest. This entire chapter confused me. I tried reading more into it, but I am still confused. I know it was put here for a reason, but maybe that reason isn't supposed to be know unto me yet. Maybe I am not ready to receive it.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 10 "For, behold, I have refined thee, I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction."
I think that this is verse is very interesting. It reminds me of the analogy that we are diamonds in the rough. We are constantanly being refined, but Heavenly Father knows our true potential.

Day 8- 1 Nephi 19

What is happening?
  1.  Nephi records the history of his people on plates of ore.
  2. He testifies that Christ will come in 600 years.
  3. Nephi teaches his brothers these things. Do you think they listen?
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love that Nephi doesn't realize why he is making this record. It is funny how the Lord will do anything to preserve the word, even hundreds of years before Martin Harris lost the transcript.
  2. I love Nephi's testimony of Christ. I believe that he really did have a vision of these things because of the detail he gives.
  3. Am I like Lamen and Lemuel or Nephi?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 17 "Yea, and all the earth shall see the salvation of the Lord, saith the prophet; every nation, kindred, tongue and people shall be blessed."
I can't wait for this day. A day everyone knows what I know. A day when everyone has a testimony. I am so excited to see the work that will go on (missionary and temple). It will be a blessed day.

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Day 7- 1 Nephi 18

What is happening?
  1. Nephi and his brothers finish building the ship. They build it not after the manner of men, but the manner of God.
  2. They all get onto the boat and head to the Promised Land. The brothers get prideful again and bind up Nephi.
  3. There comes a great storm and the boat is almost consumed by the ocean. Finally, the brothers release Nephi and he prays for the storm to stop. Then he guides the boat.
  4. They have arrived.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. In vs. 16, Nephi once again shows his great faith. It is just amazing how faithful he is even when he is tied up! I hope to have this kind of faith during my own afflictions.
  2. How could the brothers deny God after they crossed this huge ocean safely and got to the Promised Land?
  3. How prideful were the brothers to not untie Nephi as they were almost going to be destroyed??
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 16- "Nevertheless, I did look unto my God, and I did priase him all the day long; and I did not murmur against the Lord because of mine afflictions."
I just think that this is amazing faith. I can't believe that he had this mich faith to continue the praise God when the verse before he was talking about how sore he was from being tied up!! Yet, Lamen and Lemuel murmur at the first sign of trouble. This is the first big difference between these brothers.

Day 7- 1 Nephi 17

YAY!! We are on Day 7!! :)

What is happening?
  1. God commands Nephi to build a ship. The first thing he says is where can I find ore to build tools to do this.
  2. Lamen and Lemuel murmur about building a ship. They make fun of Nephi.
  3. Nephi reminds them all that God has accomplished in the past. He literally shocks them. :)
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love Nephi's faith. The interesting story about this is my Geology teacher last semester went to find the locations of where these events happened. They thought that they had found Bountiful, but they couldn't find any ore deposits. They looked around and around. Finally, they found it in an unlikely spot. The Book of Mormon is true.
  2. What would I be willing to do if the Lord asked me?
  3. What would my reaction be if my younger brother told me that we needed to build a ship?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 13 "And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led."
Even though I am not being literally let to a promised land, I believe that as we keep the commandments God will lead us in the direction we need to go.

Day 6- Got it in!

It is 11:59 and I got all my reading in. I am good! :)

Day 6- 1 Nephi 16

What is happening?
  1. Lamen and Lemuel repent. (It doesn't even last a whole chapter!)
  2. Nephi breaks his bow. His whole family (even Lehi) begin to question God. They complain and murmur.
  3. Nephi makes a new bow. He asks his father where he should go to get food. Lehi repents and finds where Nephi should go. No one starves :)
  4. Ishmael dies. The wicked brothers murmur again. They want to kill Nephi and Lehi, but are stopped by an angel.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I feel so bad for them during this chapter. It would be so hard for the boys to not be able to provide food for their families. Especially at this time they are traveling in the wilderness, their wives are pregant, and their family is getting tired. I just can't imagine. I pray that I will never have to be worried about providing food for my family. I know that it will probably happen at some point, but I hope that we are living our lives in such a way that we will not have to go hungry.
  2. Poor Lehi. Even he reaches his breaking point. He has kept the faith for so long and yet once the food runs out he murmurs. Now you see where Lamen and Lemuel get it. But he comes back very quickly.
  3. Nephi keeps the faith. Again, I don't know how he does it. Imagine all the stress of not being able to supply for your family and then having your brothers be angry with you. He just remains faithful and calm in the whole situation.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 29- "And there was also written upon them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which did give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord; and it was written and changed from time to time, according to the fiath and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things."
I just love this scripture. It really is true. Little things throughout this chapter and all of the scriptures have a big impact on the big picture. It just makes me hope that I can be that small and simple thing to someone else to bring to past something great. TO bring someone to the gospel.

Day 6- 1 Nephi 15

What is happening?
  1. Lehi's people will recieve the gospel from the Gentiles in the later days.
  2. The gathering of Israel is compared to the olive tree.
  3. Nephi explains all of this to his doubting brothers.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. This is a part of the scriptures that is not the easiest thing to understand. Sometimes I feel like Lamen and Lemuel. I complain that I don't recieve a witness, yet I am not asking for it either. I need to go to the Lord and ask Him for the answers I seek.
  2. How do Lamen and Lemuel feel as their younger brother is explaining all this to them. Do they really care?
  3. Sometimes I feel like Nephi. I exhort all my energies to eplain the gospel to my friends. I want them to believe. I want them to know the truth. Sometimes they listen, but most of the time they don't. I can't imagine how that must feel trying to do the same thing to your brothers!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 25- "Wherefore, I, Nephi did exhort them to give heed unto the word of the Lord; yea, I did exhort them with all the energies of my soul, and with all the faculty which I possessed that they would give heed to the word  of God and remember to keep his commandments always in all things."
This is the verse I was referencing earlier. I want to give my friends the gospel. I want them to understand and to heed to these words. But sometimes, I can't. I have to do all that I can. Tomorrow, I am going to post something on facebook. I pray that Heavenly Father will give me this opportunity that I might share the gospel with someone who really needs it.

Friday, October 12, 2012

Day 5- I can do this!

We are 5 days down! It is crazy. I feel like I am getting so much out of reading the scriptures like this! I am excited to continue to complete this journal experience and hope to get out of this experience as much as I want to. I pray for the spirit as I continue. I can do this.

Day 5- 1 Nephi 14

What is happening?
  1. There are two churches: the Lamb of God and the Devil
  2. The saints are persecuted by the church of the Devil.
  3. John will write the record til the end of the world.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I think it is so amazing/scary to see our day. We see these things happening around us. It is coming.
  2. I would love to read John's account. It would be interesting to see history through his eyes and to read about the things that he is seeeing that normal men can't.
  3. The Second Coming is coming soon. These scriptures really testify it. I want to make sure I am living my life in a way that if it happened tomorrow, I would be worthy to stand face to face with my Savior.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 1- "And it shall come to pass, that if the Gentiles shall harken unto the Lamb of God in that day that he shall manifest himself unto them in word and also in power, in very deed, unto the taking away of their stumbling blocks"
I really enjoyed this scripture. It is amazing to see the hand of God in my life daily. I know that He knows best for me and that He is preparing the way for me to succeed. He is walking ahead of me and moving those stumbling blocks out of the way, I just have to be smart enough to walk behind Him. :)

Day 5- 1 Nephi 13

What is happening?
  1. Nephi is still seeing visions of the modern day.
  2. He sees the rise of the church of the devil and many parts of the Bible lost or destroyed.
  3. He also sees the Americas discovered and colonized.
  4. Nephi sees the restoration of the gospel.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love seeing this aspect of history. This is not something that you are taught in history books. It really is a demonstration of God's view of everything that was happening during the colonization and time before our church was established.
  2. I think that is is so great the Nephi is able to see all these visions! He just had to have faith. I am not even going to try and compare myself to Nephi, but I believe that as I have faith I will get my own testimant. It will not be in the form of a vision, but it is still great non-the-less.
  3. I want to live to bring forth Zion.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 37- "And blessed are they who shall seek to bring forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the power of the Holy Ghost; and if they endure unto the end they shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; and whoso shall publish peace, yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be."
I love this verse. I want to live my life so that I can have the power of the Holy Ghost. I want this for me, and for my future family. I want to publish peace and be one to show unto the world this great Gospel has been restored.

Day 4- Reflection

This was a short day. Only two chapters, but they were amazing ones. It really has made me thought about the Second Coming. I am so scared for that day, but so excited all at the same time. I just hope that I am living my life in the way that I shouldn't be scared. I just can't wait until the day when I can hug Jesus Christ again and thank Him for what He has done. He really has sacrificed for us. I know that this is true. I know that He is our Savior. He is our Brother. I love Him and I hope to look right into His eyes one day and just tell Him that I love Him. Whether it is in this life or the next. :)

Good night!

Day 4- 1 Nephi 12

What is happening?
  1. Nephi sees a the Land of Promise.
  2. He sees the wickedness that proceeded the visit of the Savior to the Americas. He sees the church set up with the 12 disciples.
  3. Nephi watches the land become wicked once more.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. At first, I was like three generations? That is all it took to become wicked again? How is that possible? Then I thought that after three generations there would only be some that would have seen Jesus Christ. Sometimes it is hard to believe without seeing. That is where a lot of people lose their sight.
  2. It really reminded me of our days. The wickedness. It is just sad.
  3. The prophets are called of God.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 6 "And I saw the heavens open, and the Lamb of God descending out of heaven; and he came down and showed himself unto them."
I cannot wait for that day. The day when Jesus Christ comes again. I am trying to get to the point where I know that I will be one that will be caught up in that day. I look forward to that day where everyone will know that Jesus is the Christ and that everything we have been preaching all these years is true. That will be such a happy day. I can't wait...

Day 4- 1 Nephi 11

What is happening?
  1.  Nephi sees and understands the vision of the Tree of Life.
  2. Nephi sees Mary and the birth of the Savior.
  3. Nephi sees a vision of the life and ministry of the Savior.

How does this apply to my life?
  1. I really want to the knowledge that Nephi has. I don't expect to see a vision or anything, but I want that faith as if I had seen it. I am working on it, but I am not there yet.
  2.  If I had this knowledge, what would I do with it?
  3. What would Lamen and Lemuel think of Nephi now?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 21-22 "And the angel said unto me: Behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Son of the Eternal Father! Knowest thou the meaning of the tree which thy father saw? And I answered him saying: Yea, it is the love of God, whcih sheddeth itself abroad in the hearts of the children of men; which it is the most desirable above all things."
I just love this scripture. I love hearing about how Heavenly Father loved us so much that He sent His Son to save us all. TO see the love of God in my own life is an amazing thing. I am so grateful for His precence in my life. I pray that I may have it more often.

Day 3- A Moment of Reflection

First, I want to say how much I have been able to feel Heavenly Father's love in the past few days. I really think that it is because of taking this challenge. Good things have been happening in my life. I am just so grateful to be able to have the Holy Ghost and be able to feel Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ presence throughout my day.

Second, I wanted to reflect a moment on my patriartical blessing. It is not something I will post on here, but I just wanted to talk about it. This last General Conference, President Monson announced that the mission age for young women would change from 21 to 19. This is a great change, but it has made me think about many things the past few days. As I was reading my blessing, I was reflecting on whether or not I should serve a mission right now. In reading and pondering it, I was given another affirmation that I am not to serve a mission at this time. It doesn't say that I will not ever serve a mission, but I will not be one of the ones scrambling to turn in my paperwork to leave this winter. I truly believe that I am where I need to be right now.

Day 3- 1 Nephi 10

Last chapter of the day!

What is happening?
  1. Lehi talks about the Savior.
  2. The Savior shall be baptized by water.
  3. Nephi is desirous to know of these things, and he recieves his answer.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Can I be like Nephi and have the desire to know these things? Not only know them, but see and hear as well?
  2. I know that these scriptures are fulfilled exactly like Lehi predicts.
  3. Can I have faith to speak these things and deny them not?
Favorite Verse? Why?
I actually love a few verses from this chapter...
Vs. 17 "And it came to pass after I Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, which power he recieved by faith on the Son of God--and the Son of God was the Messiah who should come--I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the pwoer of the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of God unto all those who dilgently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that she should manifest himself unto the children of men."
I just love Nephi's faith. It would be really hard to believe in someone who had not even come yet! I cannot even imagine.

Vs. 22 "And the Holy Ghost giveth authority that I should speak these things, and deny them not."
I want this. I wan to be able to speak these things unto the whole world if Heavenly Father will let me! Even though I am not going on a mission right now, I still think that I can bare my testimony of these things to all that will listen. I am just so grateful for my testimony!

Day 3- 1 Nephi 9

Another short chapter!! :)

What is happening?
  1. The Lord has Nephi make two different records: a history and a sacred journal.
  2. Nephi doesn't now why he is making these plates, but he is doing it.
  3. Nephi testifies that the Lord knows all.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Can I trust the Lord enough to do even the simple things?
  2. Heavenly Father knew that these records would be needed (Lehi's would be destroyed).
  3. He prepares the way for His plan to come to past.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs 6 "But the Lord knoweth all things fromt he beginning; wherefore he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works among the children of men; foor behold, he hath all power unto the fulfilling of all his words. And thus it is Amen."
I LOVE THIS! I love this testimony and faith. I hope I have enough faith like Nephi to understand that I may not know everthing, but God has a plan.

Day 3- 1 Nephi 8

What is happening?
  1. VISION OF THE TREE OF LIFE!
  2. Lehi partakes of the fruit and wants his family to do so too.
  3. The Iron Rod leads to the tree
  4. Sariah, Nephi, and Sam take the fruit, Lamen and Lemuel don't.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. How would I feel if I was Lamen or Lemuel and my dad was saying these things to me?
  2. Going through high school it was not always easy to be one of the only Mormons. Infact, there were people who would laugh at me. But, Romans 1:16. I am NOT ashamed of the gospel.
  3. If I knew of these blessing of the fruit, wouldn't I do anything to be able to have one taste?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 13 "And as I cast my eyes round about, that perhaps I might discover my family also..."
I love that the first thing that Lehi wants after tasting the fruit is for his family to taste of it also. He immediately starts looking for them and when he finds them, he beckons them to come with them. I can't imagine how he would feel when Lamen and Lemuel didn't want to come. Did he feel like he was failing as a parent? Will I have to experience that- where my children don't want to partake of the goodness of the gospel?

Day 3- 1 Nephi 7

What is happening?
  1. Lehi asks the boys to go again to Jerusalem and bring out Ishmael and his family that they might have wives for the boys. (Notice the Lamen and Lemuel don't murmur this time :) )
  2. The brothers bring Ishamel and his family into the wilderness with them.
  3. While traveling back, Lamen and Lemuel get angry and want to return to Jerusalem.
  4. Nephi tells them off- they should have faith. They bind Nephi, but Nephi breaks the bands.
  5. Nephi forgives his brothers. They finally get back to where Lehi is camped.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Who can I forgive now that I haven't? If Nephi can forgive his brothers after they tried to kill him multiple times, I can forgive anyone in my life.
  2. Heavenly Father can only do so much- in the end it is our responsibility to have faith.
  3. Am I willing to follow any commandment, whether it makes me happy or not?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 12 "Yea, and how is it that ye have forgotten that the Lord is aable to do all things according to his will, for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise fiath in him? Wherefore, let us be faithful to him."
This is such a simple formula, yet it is one that we forget all the time! If we have faith in God, He will be able to help us with anything. It is so simple! I know that I am guilty of this as well. Sometimes, it is hard to have faith. I can see Lamen and Lemuel seeing this in their life and being so close to Jerusalem, of course they wanted to go back again. But sometimes there are things that I can see in my life that aren't necessarily the best for me. I have to trust Heavenly Father and walk into the unknown wilderness to see what He has in store for me. :)

Day 2- Overview

Okay! So I am already ahead!

If I have time tonight, I will begin Day 3. Now I feel like I have the strength to start the day out right and to do the things that I am supposed to do.

2 days down, 88 wonderful days to go! :)

Day 2- 1 Nephi 6

Here is a really short chapter!

What is happening?
  1. Nephi is not going to make a full account of their geneology. They are descendants of Joseph.
  2. He wants to have more room to write the things that God wants him to write.
  3. He is writing these things that he "may persuade men to come unto God...and be saved"
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Again, I need to write more of my history so that my children will have something to read someday.
  2. This is part of my purpose in doing this challenge. I want my children to know that I have a testimony of these scriptures. I want them to be able to read through my journey.
  3. When I do write in my journal, am I writing things that are pleasing unto men or pleasing unto God?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 3 "And it mattereth not to me that I am particular to give a full account of all the things of my father, for they cannot be written upon these plates, for I desire the room that I may write the things of God."
It is amazing to see Nephi's testimony and connection with God. He knows what he is supposed to write and why he is supposed to write it. He wants to get right to the point. This is the purpose that God wanted him to fulfil. I just love it. I am reading the things of God right now. Sometimes, I feel like I do not recognize this enough.

Day 2- 1 Nephi 5

What is happening?
  1.  Nephi and his brothers return to their family with Zoram.
  2.  Sariah (Nephi's mother) was angry with her husband because he sent their children into the wilderness back to Jeruselum. She questions him and his prophecies. But becomes faithful once more once her sons return.
  3. Lehi reads through the plates of brass that Nephi brough back. They contain a "the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world, and also of Adam and Eve, who were our first parents. And also a record of the Jews from the beginninge, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah; And also the prophies of the holy prophets from the begining even down to the commencement of the rign of Zedekiah; and also many prophecies which had been spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah" as well as a"geneology of his fathers"
How does this apply to my life?
  1.  If I was in Sariah's case, how would I feel?
  2. Lehi shows the attitude that we should feel about the scriptures. As soon as he is able to get his hands on them he reads them. That is just so amazing.
  3. Also, Nephi describes the plate as "great worth unto us". It is ironic that he is talking about how the plates will be such a great worth unto his people, but he doesn't even know the great worth of the plates he is writing unto the people of our day!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 8 "And she spake, saying: Now I know of a surety that the Lord hath commanded my husband to flee into the wilderness; yeah, and I also know of a surety that the Lord hath protected my sons, and delivered them out of the hands of Laben, and given them power whereby they could accompoish the thing which the Lord hath commanded them. And after this manner of language did she speak."
Here we see Sariah's testimony increase. Now she KNOWS. I love that she is willing to bare her testimony to her children to let them know that she has one. The last line really shows that this isn't all that she said. This was the manner of language that she used. I believe that she probably spend days, weeks and months testifying the truthfulness of her words and being and example to her children. I was lucky enough to have a mother like this and I hope to one day be a mother like this.

Day 2- 1 Nephi 4

Here is the start of Day 4. I don't know if I will have much time tonight, so I want to get ahead.
What is happening?
  1.  Nephi goes to get the plates. He kills Laben (who is passed out drunk) and dresses in his clothes.
  2.  Zoram and Nephi retrieve the plates and return to Nephi's brothers. Zoram makes an oath to join their family in the wilderness.
  3. They begin their journey back into the wilderness.
How does this apply to my life?
  1.  The Lord will provide a way for everything, I just have to listen to His promptings.
  2. What would I do in Zoram's case? Would I have run or join them?
  3. I need to trust in the Lord. He knows best.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 6 "And I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do."
I really love this scripture because I have felt this in my own life. With my job as a peer mentor, I sometimes feel like I don't know what I am going to say to these students. In my meetings with them I try and say a little prayer so that I know what to ask them that they need to talk about. In many cases, I have truly felt the Spirit leading me to the things which I should say.

Day 1- Overview

So, I have completed the three chapters assigned to today.

1 day down, 89 wonderful days to go.

I can do this. I am excited about this challenge that I have given myself. I wanted to quickly discuss what I want to get out of this challenge for myself.
  • A better understanding of the scriptures
  • A better love of the scriptures
  • A resource that I can go back to when I have questions
  • A place of reflection as I read through the scriptures
  • Something to show my children someday and challenge them to do as well.

Day 1- 1 Nephi 3

Last chapter of the night. It is so funny because as I am finishing this chapter, I want to continue reading. But, I will have to continue tomorrow.

What is happening?
  1.  Lehi asks his sons to go back to Jeruselum to get the plates (Laban has them).
  2. Nephi says he will gladly 'go and do' while Lamen and Lemuel murmur (again).
  3. Lamen tried to get the plates from Laben, but failed. They tried trading their riches for the plates, but failed.
  4. Lamen and Lemuel got mad a Nephi because of their failure and smite him and Sam with a rod. An angel comes down and stops them. Still they don't have faith.
How does this apply to my life?
  1.  I know that I don't always have that "go and do" attitude that Nephi has. I am trying to get better. I am working on it day by day.
  2. Again, am I a Lamen and Lemuel or a Nephi and Sam?
  3.  Do I understand who is on my side? Do I trust God enough to have faith that everything will work out.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Again, I have a few favorite verses.
Vs. 5 "And now, behold thy brothers murmur, saying it is a hard thing which I have required of them; but behold I have not required it of them, but it is a commandment of the Lord."
I love this verse because sometimes I forget where commandments are coming from. I will admit that it is not easy to follow the words of a God that we can't see. I can see for a minute Lamen and Lemuel's point of view. But them I remember my own testimony of God. I know sometimes we don't understand all of the commandments that God gives us, but we need to remember that He is after all God. He knows what is best for us, even if we don't think so.

Vs. 31 "And after the angel had departed, Laman and Lemuel again began to murmur, saying: How is it possible that the Lord will deliever Laben into our hands? Behold, he is a might man and he can command fifty, yea, even he can say fifty; then why not us?"
One of the reasons I love this scripture is because of something I wrote beside the last line. Who is on your side? These five simple words say so much. Really, these brothers are not in the best situation. They are trying to get something from one of the most powerful man in the world. Notice emphasis on man. He is a man after all. He can command fifty, slay fifty. But look at Heavenly Father. He can command a lot more than fifty and slay more that that if He wanted to. We are blessed enough to be on the right side of this battle, no matter what foe we face.

Day 1- 1 Nephi 2

Here is the Chapter 2 of 1 Nephi.

What is happening?
  1.  Lehi takes his family into the wilderness to escape Jeruselum being destroyed and the people seeking to take away his life.
  2.  Lamen and Lemuel are murmuring
  3. Lehi dwelt in a tent.
  4. Nephi is told that he can be a ruler of his older brothers if he just keeps the commandments lke he has been doing.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. What am I willing to give up for the Lord?
  2. Am I am Lamen and Lemuel or a Nephi and Sam?
  3. What is the Lord commanding me to do right now?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 20 "And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper and shall be led to the land of promise; yea even a land which I have prepared for you; yea, a land which is choice above all other lands"
No, I am not journeying in the wilderness, but I still think that this applicable to me. Why? Because I feel that as I keep God's commandments I shall prosper. I might not be led to a new land exactly, but I will be led on the pathway that my Heavenly Father wants me to go on. This can be in this lifetime where I physically be where I need to be or in the next life in the Celestrial Kingdom. I believe that Heavenly Father has prepared a mansion for me right next to his. It is the land that He has prepared for me. I just hope that I live worthy enough to recieve it someday.

Day 1- 1 Nephi 1

How many one's can you get into a title? Apparently at least three. Here is Day 1 and Chapter 1 as I begin my journey.

What is happening?
  1.  Nephi is making a record of the things that are happening.
  2.  Lehi has a vision that Jeruselem is going to be destroyed.
  3.  The Jews were angry with Lehi because he is predicting that Jeruselem will be destroyed.
How does this apply to my life?
  1.  I need to make a better record of the things happening in my life.
  2.  I just heard the words of the prophet yesterday. Am I going to listen to these words and apply them to my own life or will my ignorance of them be like the Jews mocking Lehi?
  3.  How can I have my "whole heart filled because of the things which I have seen, yeah whicht he Lord has shown unto me?" (vs. 15 w/ a few personal edits)
Favorite Verse? Why?
Okay, well I have two favorite verses in this chapter...
Vs. 1 "I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I hwas taught someone in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my proceedings in my days."
I love this verse so much because I can relate so much to Nephi in this moment. I was born of goodly parents. I have been taught by them. I have seen many afflictions in my days, but still I have been favored of the Lord. I know that Heavenly Father has been very aware of my circumstances. It is hard for me to have faith and to trust the mysteries of God sometimes, but I know that He is there.

Vs. 15 "And after this manner was the language of my father in the praising of his God; for his soul did rejoice and his whole heart was filled, because of the things which he had seen, yea, which the Lord had shown unto him"
I love this verse because I can see that Lehi is so happy at this moment. Though I have not seen any vision in my day, I want what Lehi has. I want my heart to be full of love and happiness. It is something I am striving for and praying that I gain as I do this Book of Mormon Challenge.

My Book of Mormon Challenge

My goal is to read the Book of Mormon in 90 days. I know I can do it if I put my mind to it and so I am making myself accountable to myself as well as the blogging world. As I go through reading the Book of Mormon, I want to document my challenge on this blog. I want to write  my throughts and feelings down so that I can come back to them one day and reread through my journey.

So here it begins.
January 6th here I come...
