Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 10 "And I command you to take it upon you to counsel with your elder brothers in your undertakings; for behold, thou art in thy youth, and ye stand in need to be nourished by your brothers. And give heed to their counsel."
I think that this not only is representive of our earthly brothers, but our spiritual brothers. This can be Jesus Christ, as well as prophets of our day and of past days. We need to give heed to the word of those that are more inspired of us. We always have things to learn.

Vs. 14 "And now remember, my son, that God has entrusted you with these things, which are sacred, which he has kept sacred, and also which he will keep and preserve for a wise purpose in him, that he may show forth his power unto future generations."
I try to imagine Joseph Smith translating this verse. What was he feeling? Was he getting emotional? I think it it were me, I would be just blown out of my mind. It is amazing to know that these records were really preserved for us! It is amazing.

Vs. 16 "Therefore, he caused that his sons should be gathered together, that he might give unto them every one his charge, seperately, concerning the things pertaining unto righteousness. And we have an account of his commandments, which he gave unto them according to his own record."
I believe that this is what happened in the premortal life. I think that Heavenly Father sat each of us down and gave us a calling. It is still our choice whether to follow our "charge".

Day 49- Still Sick

So, I am on day 49. That is absolutely crazy!! I am so glad for the experiences that I have had in doing this challenge and in praying about this book.

Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 26 "Now, as I said concerning faith--that it was not a perfect knowledge--even so it is with my words. Ye cannot know of their surety at first, unto perfection, any more than faith is a perfect knowledge."
This gives me much comfort. I feel like sometimes I do not have enough faith because I do question some things. But as I read this scripture I realize I am not supposed to have a perfect knowledge of these things. It is my actions that show my faith.

Day 49- Alma 31

What is happening?
  1. Alma wants to bring back the Zoramites.
  2. The missionaries are filled with the Holy Ghost.
  3. They are given much joy.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 34 "O Lord, wilt thou grant unto us that we may have success in bringing them again unto thee in Christ."
I think this should be included every missionary's prayers.

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 7 "Now there was no law against a man's belief; for it was strictly contrary to the commands of God that there should be a law which should bring men on to unequal grounds."
This is the very foundation that this country was founded upon.

Day 48- Alma 29

What is happening?
  1. Alma wants to preach repentance unto all that will listen.
  2. The Lord will give missionaries to all the nations.
  3. Alma glories in God's work and in the success of the missionaries.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 8 "For behold, the Lord doth grant unto all nations, of their own nation and tongue, to teach his word, yea, in wisdom, all that he seeth fit that they should have; therefore we see that the Lord doth counsel in wisdom, according to that which is just and true."
Heavenly Father will always give unto us what we need. This applies to temporal and spiritual.

Day 48- Alma 28

Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 14 "And thus we see the great call of diligence of men to labor in the vineyards of the Lord; and thus we see the great reason of sorrow, and also of rejoicing--sorrow because of death and destruction among men, and joy because of the light of Christ unto life."
In Christ there is hope.

Friday, November 23, 2012

Day 47- Alma 27

What is happening?
  1. Ammon prays to know if the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi should go to join the Nephites- they are.
  2. The Nephites accept them and give them the land of Jershon.
  3. They are called the people of Ammon. They have joy and are beloved of God.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 18 "Now was not this exceeding joy? Behold, this is joy which none receiveth save it be the truly penitent and humble seeker of happiness."

And this is the blessing which hath been bestowed upon us, that we have been made instruments in the hands of God to bring about this great work."
I know that I have kind of sort of been obsessed with missionary work, but I really do love this scripture because Ammon considers it a blessing for HIMSELF to have been an instrument in the hands of the Lord. It works both ways. Sometimes we don't considre that.

Vs 12 "Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strenght I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever."

Vs. 16 "Therefore, let us glory, yeah, we will glory in the Lord; yea we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yeah, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel."

Day 47- Alma 25

What is happening?
  1. Lamanites are still angry. There are many battles.
  2. Abinadi's prophesy comes true.
  3. Many of the Lamanites join the church and become part of the Anti-Nephi-Lehi's.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 16 "Now they did not suppose that salvation came by the law of Moses; but the law of Moses did serve to strengthen their faith in Christ; and thus they did retain a hope through faith, unto eternal salvation, relying upon the spirit of prophecy, which spake of those thing to come."
So very true. We need to rely on our prophets and our own revelation. Yes, we need to also follow the commandments and the scriptures, but as it is said "A living prophet is better than a dead one"

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Day 46- Alma 24

What is happening?
  1. The Lamanites hate the righteous people and come up to battle against them.
  2. The Anti-Nephi-Lehies don't fight back. They would rather suffer death than defend themselves.
  3. This causes some of the Lamanites to be converted.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Trust in the Lord. I know some people had to die here, but they were able to help others be converted through their deaths and I am sure they are saved.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 26 "And it came to pass that the people of God were joined that day by more than the number who had been slain; and those who had been slain were righteous people, therefore we have no reason to doubt but what they were saved."
I love this. I always say I am willing to die for God, but these people did. I want to know how I would have felt in that moment.

Day 46- Alma 23

What is happening?
  1. The King of the Lamanites allows Ammon and their brethern to go forth preaching the word of God throughout the land.
  2. Many people are converted.
  3. They become the Anti-Nephi-Lehies.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 5 "And thousands were brought to the knowledge of the Lord, yea, thousands were brought to believe in the traditions of the Nephites; and they were taught the records and prophecies which were handed down even to the present time."

Vs. 15 "And it came to pass that after Aaron had expounded these things unto him, the king said: What shall I do that I may have this eternal life of which thou has spoken? Yea, what shall I do that I may be born of God, having this wicked spirit rooted out of my breast, and receive his Spirit, that I may be filled with joy, that I may not be cast off at the last day? Behold, saild he, I will give up all that I possess, yea, I will forsake my kingdom, that I may receive this great joy."
The perfect convert!

Day 45- Alma 21

What is happening?
  1. This is an account of Aaron's teaching to the Lamanites.
  2. Aaron testifies of the gospel and of Jesus Christ.
  3. They are cast into prison.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Sometimes we have to go through trials that the Lord wants us to go through in order to have greater things come to pass.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 23 "And Ammon did preach unto the people of king Lamoni; and it came to pass that he did teach them all things concerning things pertaining to righteousness. And he did exhort them daily, with all diligence; and they gave heed unto his word, and they were zealous for keeping the commandments of God."
Here are the greater things that come from the trials. For everything there is a purpose in God's plan.

Day 45- Alma 20

What is happening?
  1. Ammon and King Lamoni are about to go to the land of Nephi when Ammon recieves revlation that he is supposed to go to the land of Middoni where his brothern are in prinson.
  2. They meet the father of Lamoni (king of all the land) on their journey. The king does not like Ammon.
  3. After a few small fights, the father of Lamoni allows them to proceed and releases the brothern of Ammon.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. No matter what is thrown at us, we an withstand it when we have the power of the Lord. Ammon was able to withstand a sword without getting hurt.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 5 "And Ammon said unto him: No one hath told me, save it be God; and he said unto me--Go and deliver they brethern, for they are in prison in the land of Middoni."
I am grateful to live in a time where we can have prophets that help us communicate with God. Not only that, but the revelation we are able to receive for ourselves.

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Day 44- Alma 19

What is happening?
  1. King Lamoni is believed to be dead. The queen does not think that he is dead though.
  2. King Lamoni wakes up and testifies of the truth. All of the people that hear these words fall to the ground being overpowered by the Spirit.
  3. All the people think that it is Ammon's fault that all of these people have fallen to the earth.
  4. They all rise and testify of what they have experienced.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 36 "And thus the work of the Lord did commence among the Lamanites; thus the Lord did begin to pour out his Spirit upon them; and we see that his arm is extended to all people who will repent and believe on his name."
I continue to love seeing the work roll forward. I am seeing half of my friends choose to serve missions. It is just great! :)

Day 44- Alma 18

What is happening?
  1. King Lamoni hears about Ammon protecting the flocks.
  2. Ammon preaches to King Lamoni. Lamoni thinks that Ammon is the Great Spirit.
  3. King Lamoni is overcome with the spirit and passes out.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 34 "Ammon said unto him: I am a man; and man in the beginning was created after the image of God, and I am called by his Holy Spirit to teach these things unto this people, that they may be brought to a knowledge of that which is just and true;"
God gives His message through men's mouths. It doesn't have to come directly from God to be true. He revealth through the mouths of his servants.

Monday, November 19, 2012

Day 43- Alma 17

What is happening?
  1. Sons of Mosiah go their seperate ways to teach the word to the Lamanites.
  2. Ammon goes to the people of King Lamoni.
  3. Ammon protects the flocks of the king.

  1. Trust in the Lord. Sometimes He will work in mysterious ways, but they will work
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 11 "And the Lord said unto them also: Go forth  among the Lamanites, they brethern, and establish my word; yet ye shall be patient in long suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me, and I will make an instrument of thee in my hands unto the salvation of many souls."
They had to have so much faith to leave their families in these days and go to their enemies. It is just amazing to see such great young men.

Day 43- Alma 16

What is happening?
  1. The land is peaceful for  years, then a cry of war is heard throughout the land.
  2. The Nephites began to build an army.
  3. Alma and Amulek preach repentance to the people.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 20 "And many of the people did inquire concerning the place where the Son of God should come; and they were taught that he would appear uto them after his resurrection; and this the people did hear with great joy and gladness."
It is amazing how the message of Christ can make people happy. It has been doing so for hundreds and thousands of years. To know and have a hope that Christ will come. That is what makes life worth living.

Sunday, November 18, 2012

Day 42- Alma 15

  1. Alma and Amulek leave and go to the land of Sidom.
  2. Zeezrom admits his faults and is healed. He joins the church.
  3. The church begins to prosper. Alma and Amulek go to Zarahemla.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Have faith and miracles can happen.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 18 "Now as I said, Alma having seen all these things, therefore he took Amulek and came over to the land of Zarahemla, and took him to his own house, and did administer unto him in his tribulations, and strengthened him in the Lord."
This is great to see the friendship of Alma and Amulek. In my Book of Mormon class we talk about how Amulek's wife and children were probably burned. Now, his friends and father and kindred are no longer speaking to him. He is so lucky to have a friend like Alma to help him during this rough time.

Day 42- Alma 14

What is happening?
  1. Alma and Amulek get put into prison.
  2. They are forced to watch the women and children and scriptures get burned.
  3. The prison walls fall and only Alma and Amulek are able to walk out alive.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Heavenly Father will not always do what we want. I know that Alma and Amulek must have been tortured watching those people get burned. But they did not try to stop them. They knew that Heavenly Father had a different plan.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 26 "And Alma cried saying HOw long shall we suffer these great afflictions, O Lord? O Lord, give us strength according to our faith which is in Christ, even unto deliverance. And they broke the cords with which they were bound; and when the people saw this, they began to flee, for the fear of distruction had come upon them."
I love seeing the faith of Alma. It reminds me of the moment where Joseph Smith asked God how long the trials would be upon them. Even if you question for a moment it does not mean that you do not have faith. In fact, I think it shows that you do have faith to know where the trials are coming from.

Saturday, November 17, 2012

Day 41- Alma 13

What is happening?
  1. Men are foreordained to their callings.
  2. The righteous will be sanctified.
  3. The coming of Christ will be declared by Angels.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 3 "And this is the manner after which they were ordained- being called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works; in the first place being left to choose good or evil; therfore they having chosen good, and exercising exceedingly great faith, are called with a holy calling, yea, with that holy calling which was prepared with, and according to a preparatory redemption for such."
This really does show two things: 1) we are called from before the world began to do the things that we are meant to do. 2) we have the knowledge to still choose to do these things.

Vs. 29 "Having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest."
Can I just say AMAZING!

Day 41- Alma 12

What is happening?
  1. Alma debates with Zeezrom.
  2. Our words and works will condemn us.
  3. God gave us commandments. This is all part of the plan.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 25 "Now, if it had not been for the plan of redemption, which was laid from the foundation of the world, there could have been no resurrection of the dead; but there was a plan of redemption laid, which shall bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, of which has been spoken."
I am so grateful that I know this plan. I feel like life would be hard if I didn't. I have seen friends and family members pass on. I don't know how I would go on if I did not know that they would live again.

Friday, November 16, 2012

Day 40- Alma 11

What is happening?
  1. We are shown the money system of the day.
  2. Amulek and Zeezrom debate.
  3. Amulek testifies that Christ can not save people IN their sins.
  4. The Resurrection comes by and through Christ.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Why do they include the money system? To show that the money that Zeezrom was willing to give was great. We sould not be tempted by the things of the world, even when they seem great.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 24 "Believest thou that there is no God? I say unto, Nay, thou knowest that there is a God, but thou lovest that lucre more than him"
Sometimes I wonder if God views me this way. Do I love the things of the world more than I love God? Am I willing to give up my worldly posessions to serve God?

Day 40- Alma 10

What is happening?
  1. Amulek preaches to the people. He tells how the spirit told him about Alma before he came.
  2. Lawyers try to twist his words.
  3. Amulek gets angry.
  4. Zeezrom is one of the lawyers.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. One thing that this really teaches me is to always listen to the words of the spirit. If I ignore a prompting, I miss out on an opportunity to be blessed. Amulek listened the the prompting and all of his family was blessed.
  2. The righteous are the ones that spare the wicked. God will not smite the people if there is one righteous soul among them.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 10 "And again, I know the things whereof he hath testified are true; for behold I say unto you, that as the Lord liveth, even so has he sent his angel to make these things manifest unto me; and this he has done while this Alma hath dwelt at my house."
I love hearing Amulek's testimony. It really strengthens my own testimony to know that this man who's heart was hardened was brought to the knowledge of God.

Vs. 17 "And at some period of time they will be brought to believe in his words, and to know o the incorrectness of the traditions of their fathers; and many of them will be saved, for the Lord will be merciful unto all who call on his name."
I am glad that I know these things to be true. I am grateful that I grew up in the gospel. I am grateful that I can call upon God and He will be merciful unto me.

Day 39- Alma 8

What is happening?
  1. Alma goes to teach the people of Melek.
  2. He baptizes people that come to him throughout all the borders of the land.
  3. Alma goes to the land of Ammoniha and teaches to them, but Satan has a hold on their hearts. Alma leaves the city.
  4. He is commanded to return again and meets Amulek. God had told Amulek ahead of time that Alma would be coming.  They both go forth and declare the words of God.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. God will always provide a way for His message to be taught.
  2. Sometimes we are commanded to do things that don't make sense, but as we follow God's promptings it will all make sense in the end.
  3. I need to have faith to follow these promptings.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 32 "And it came to pass that they went forth and began to preach and to prophesy unto the people, according to the spirit and power which the Lord had given them."

I really love this verse. It is full of the Christ like characteristics that I am trying to develop. It also shows that we must be thankful. With Thanksgiving only a week away (but who is counting), I really want to show my gratitude to God for everything that He has given me and continues to give to me.

Day 38- Alma 6

What is happening?
  1. The Church is set in order.
  2. Everyone is called to repent.
  3. Alma goes to Gideon to teach the people.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 6 "Nevertheless the children of God were commanded that they should gather themselves together oft, and join in fasting and mighty prayer in behalf of the welfare of the souls of those who were not God."
I love that Heavenly Father cares about us so much that He has us go to church. I love meeting together with my ward to learn about the goodness of God and gain an understanding of His plan. It is just an amazing concept. We are lucky to live in a country where we can do this.

Day 38- Alma 5

What is happening?
  1. Alma preaches to the people.
  2. Christ can cleanse everyone if they are humble.

Vs. 33 "Behold, he sendeth an invitation unto all men, for the arms of mercy are extended towards them, and he saith: Repent, and I will receive you."
I love knowing that He is always there. It is hard sometimes to be the one that has to make the first step, but knowing that He is right there to receive me makes that step a little easier.

Day 37- Alma 4

What is happening?
  1. The people are brought to the rememberance of their God. Alma baptizes lots of people.
  2. Pride comes again.
  3. Alma gives the judgement seat to Nephihah.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 16 "And he selected a wise man who was among the elders of the church, and gave him power according to the voice of the people, that he might have power to enact laws according to the laws which had been given, and to put them in force according to the wickedness and the crimes of the people."
I love hearing that about prophets. I know Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet. He does speak the words of God. It is just so amazing.

Day 37- Alma 3

What is happening?
  1. Lots of people were slain in the war.
  2. The Amlicites mark themselves- like was foretold
  3. They fight again.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 27 "For every man receiveth wages of him whom he listeth to obey, and this according to the words of the spirit of prophecy; therefore let it be according to the truth. And thus endeth the fifth year of the reign of the jduges."
God's word will always be fulfilled. I love it! I love that I know we have a living prophet of the earth today.

Day 36- Alma 2

What is happening?
  1. Amlici decides he wants to be king over the people.
  2. Over half the people vote against having him for their king.
  3. The people that supported Amlici left the Nephites. They became the Amlicites.
  4. The two groups fight.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 6 "And thus they did assemble themselves together to cast their voices concernig the matter; and they were laid before the judges."
Again, I love how the this really is the blessed land. It is a land of freedom. When the people are righteous, the freedom is there. When they are wicked...that is when the freedoms disappear. This scares me. I am scared we are leaning toward the wrong side.

Day 36- Alma 1

What is happening?
  1. A man is preaching false doctrine to the people. He even slays Gideon.
  2. The man is brough before Alma to be judged.
  3. Nehor (the man) is executed for his crimes.
  4. The church propsers.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Again, nothing will standin the way of the church. Nothing.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 19 "But it came to pass that wosoever did not belong to the church of God began to persecute those that did belong to the church of God, and had taken upon them the name of Christ."
Sound familiar? Hmm....

Day 35- Mosiah 29

What is happening?
  1. Mosiah wants the kingdom to be ruled by judges instead of a king.
  2. Kings can lead to unrighteousness if they do not rule righteously.
  3. Alma is appointed the chief judge.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 38 "Thererfore they relinquished their desires for a king, and became exceedingly anxious that every man should have an equal chance throughout all the land; yea, and every man expressed a willingness to answer for his own sins."
This sounds a lot like America. America was established so that every man should have an equal chance- an equal voice. I just love knowing that this is the Promised Land of God.

Day 35- Mosiah 28

What is happening?
  1. The sons of Mosiah desire to preach to the Lamanites. Their dad allows them to go.
  2. Mosiah translates the records using two stones.
  3. The people of Mosiah recieve these words with gladness and sorrow.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 18- "Now this account did cause the people of Mosiah to mourn exceedingly, yea, they were filled with sorrow; nevertheless it gave them much knowledge, in the which they did rejoice."
I feel like this is how I feel about the Book of Mormon. Some of the things in it are completely sad, but at the same time I feel like I am learning so much from the mistakes of others. This makes me happy. I am lucky that I know of this gospel and this book.

Day 35- Moisah 27

What is happening?
  1. Mosiah makes a proclamation that there should be no persecution.
  2. Alma the younger and the sons of Mosiah seek to destroy the church. No way we are going to let that happen now...
  3. An angel appears to them and commands that they stop. Alma is struck dumb and when he comes to, he testifies of the goodness of God. They all go to declare the word.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Nothing can get in the way of the church. Nothing is going to stop it from growing. It is true.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 36-37 "And thus they were instruments in the hands of God in bringing many to the knowledge of the truth, yea, to the knowledge of their Redeemer. And how blessed are they! For they did publish peace; they did publish good tidings of good; and they did declare unto the people that the Lord reigneth."
I love this! Someday I hope that I can be an instrument in God's hands. I trust in his timing. Until then, I will be an instrument in God's hand where he wants me!

Day 34- Mosiah 26

What is happening?
  1. The next generation begins to fall away. They were too young to remember King Benjamin's words.
  2. Alma is chosen to judge them.
  3. Everyone who repents can be forgiven of their sins.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Honestly, I think this is so ironic. Alma is chosen to judge these people that have fallen away and preaching false words. He could have easily put them into prison, but he didn't. He sought God for the answer. Little did he know that his decision now would effect his son later!
  2. I love knowing that I can be forgiven of my sins. Sometimes, I find it hard. Sometimes, I don't feel worthy of repentance. As I read these scriptures, I know that I am.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 22 "For behold, this is my church; whosoever is baptized shall be baptized unto repentance. And whosoever ye recieve shall believe in my name; and him will I freely forgive."
I love the word "freely". It is just amazing to me that it is that easy. Okay, so it is not completely easy. But I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are willing to forgive freely those who repent. This concept just makes me so happy and hopeful.

Day 34- Mosiah 25

What is happening?
  1. The people all become Nephites.
  2. They learn of the people of Alma and of Zeniff.
  3. Alma baptizes. Mosiah gives him authority to organize the Church.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I think that this is amazing to see the church established. There are so many parallels to the church being established in this dispensation.
  2. I love that Alma reminds the people to "remember it was the Lord that did deliver them" (16). It is when you forget who delivered you out of your trials that problems start to happen.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 22 "And thus, notwithstanding there being many churches they were all one church, yea, even the church of God; for there was nothing preached in all the chruches except it were repentance and faith in God."
Sound familiar? :)
I love that even in this day you can go to a church in Mexico one week and a church in New York the next week and they will be teaching the same thing! The church is true.

Friday, November 9, 2012

Day 33- Mosiah 24

What is happening?
  1. Amulon gains favor in the eyes of the king of the Lamanites.
  2. Amulon doesn't like Alma. He tells them that they will be put to death if they pray.
  3. The Lord hears their cries and delivers them.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 5 "And they were a people friendly one with another; nevertheless they knew not God; neither did the breathern of Amulon teach anything concerning the Lord their God, neither the law of Moses; nor did they teach them the words of Abinadi;"
This may seem like a weird verse to like. The reason why I love it is because it shows that not all non-members are bad. They were still friendly, even though they did not know God. We should not assume the worst of our brothers and sisters even though they do not have the Gospel.

Day 33- Mosiah 23

What is happening?
  1. Alma's people want him to be a king. He refuses, but he does accept the calling of high priest.
  2. The Lamanites conquer the land of Helam.
  3. Amulon rules his people.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 7 "But he said unto them: Behold, it is not expedient that we should have a king; for thus saith the Lord: Ye shall not esteem one flesh above another, or one man shall not think himself above another; therefore I say unto you it is not expedient that ye should have a king."
I am so grateful that we live in a country where we do not have a king. Did the election turn out the way I wanted it to? No. But still. We are so lucky to live in a country that gives us the opportunity to vote for our president instead of being subject to a King.

Day 33- Mosiah 22

What is happening?
  1. Ammon and King Limhi make plans on escape.
  2. Gideon brings the idea of getting the Lamanite guards drunk.
  3. The people escape and return to Zarahemla. Mosiah accepts them and their records with joy.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Honestly, I think the greatest idea here is to think outside the box. I don't have to do something that would harm others. If I follow God's plan for me, then all will turn out.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 14 "And it came to pass that Mosiah received them with joy; and he also recieved their recoreds, and also the reocords which had been found by the people of Limhi."
I love this attitude that Mosiah has. I think this is going to be our attitude when the lost tribes come out with their records.

Thursday, November 8, 2012

Day 32- Mosiah 21

What is happening?
  1. Limhi's people are under the burden the the Lamanites.
  2. They find the record of the Jaredites.
  3. Ammon comes and finds them. We are all caught up in the story!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 15 "And now the Lord was slow to hear their cry because of their iniquities; nevertheless the Lord did hear their cries, and began to soften the hearts of the Lamanites that they began to ease their burdens; yet the Lord did not see fit to deliver them out of bondage"
I love the first part of this. Even though the Lord was slow to act upon their cries, He still HEARD them. He still loves His children, even if they are not doing the best things in the world.

Day 32- Mosiah 20

What is happening?
  1. The priests of Noah take some of the Lamanite daugthers.
  2. The Lamanites think that it was the people of Limhi and decide to attack them.
  3. The king of the Lamanites is hurt and put among their dead. They sort the whole thing out.

Day 32- Mosiah 19

What is happening?
  1. Gideon seeks to slay King Noah.
  2. The Lamanites invade the land and Gideon spares King Noah.
  3. Noah and the men flee in the wilderness. King Noah does not want them to go back for their wives. They kill him (death by fire)
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs.29 "And now king Limhi did have continul peace in his kingdom for the space of two years, that the Lamanites did not molest them nor seek to destroy them."
This would be so great for them. They get a break from all the fighting.

Day 31- Mosiah 18

What is happening?
  1. Alma repents of his sins and begins to preach in the wilderness.
  2. Alma baptizes those that will listen to his words and organizes a Church.
  3. King Noah tries to find the people, but they run from him.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I think we can find so many similars to the organization of the Church in our day. It just makes sense that history will repeat itself.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 21 "And he commanded them that there should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with one eye, having one faith, and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another."
I love this! I cannot wait for the day when we will have this again. It will be glorious.

Day 31- Mosiah 17

What is happening?
  1. Abinadi finishes his words. The King commands that he should be put to dead.
  2. Alma believes his words and pleads with King Noah to spare him, but then the King wants to kill Alma as well. Alma runs.
  3. Noah almost releases Abinadi, but his priests insist that he must be put to death.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 9-10 "Now Abinadi said unto him: I saw unto you, I will not recall the words which I have spoken unto you concerning this people, for they are true; and that ye may know of their surety I have suffered myself that I have fallen into your hands. Yea, and I will suffer even until death, and I will not recall my words, and they shall standa as a testimony againt you. And if ye slay me ye will shed innocent blodd and this shall also stand as a testimony against you at the last day."
I just love this. Do I have this strong of a testimony that I would be willing to look death in the face and ask for it? I hope I would. I hope I will

Day 31- Mosiah 16

What is happening?
  1. Abinadi continues preaching
  2. God redeems his people.
  3. Christ will bring to pass a resurrection
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 9 "He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death."
In my scriptures, I have written "Evil will never win" next to this verse. I think that this is very true. Even in the darkest of moments, we can remember to turn on the light :) We can remember that Jesus Christ lives. That is what matters.

Day 30- Wow

I am so amazed how much I have been edified in the past 30 days. I am so grateful for this challenge. I am grateful for the new knowledge I have gained and the love I have felt. It is just so amazing.

Day 30- Mosiah 15

What is happening?
  1. Abinadie continues to preach of Christ.
  2. Christ shall break the bands of death and bring to pass resurrection.
  3. Little children will have eternal life.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. How does this not apply to my life? It doesn't. It is who I am and what I believe. It just is amazing.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 20 "But behold, the bands of death shall be broken, and the Son reigneth, and hath power over the dead; therefore, he bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead."
I love this. It gives me such hope. I am glad that I know of God's marvelous plan. Otherwise, I don't know how I would get through the day.

Day 30- Mosiah 14

What is happening?
  1. Abinadi preaches of Christ.
  2. Christ shall atone for our sins.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 7 "He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shears is dumb so he opened not his mouth."
This verse always makes me feel so guilty. It makes me want to express a deep love and gratitude for my Savior. His sacrfice was amazing and He did not complain once. That just amazes me.

Day 30- Mosiah 13

What is happening?
  1. King Noah tries to slay Abinadi, but he is protected by God.
  2. Abinadi finishes his message. He teaches them about the 10 commandments.
  3. Jesus Christ will come and redeem his people.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. How could they kill him after this? Seriouslly! It is crazy that they would still be willing to kill a prophet of God after he is obviously a prophet.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 3 "Touch me not, for God shall smite you if ye lay your hands upon me, for I have not delivered the message which the Lord sent me to deliver; neither have I told you that which ye requested that I should tell; therefore, God will nto suffer that I shall be destroyed at this time."
God will not let men get in the way of his purposes.

Day 29- Mosiah 12

What is happening?
  1. Abinadi preaches in secret. He prophesies of the destruction of the people.
  2. He is taken to King Noah. He is put into prison.
  3. He is brought to speak the the council and King Noah. He calles them in their wickedness.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. Prophets are real. They speak the words of God.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs 27 "Ye have not applied your hearts to understanding;therefore, ye have not been wise. Therefore, what teach ye this people"
Wisdom does not come by knowledge alone. It comes by applying and understanding that knowledge.

Day 29- Mosiah 11

What is happening?
  1. Zeniff gives the kingdom to Noah. He rules in wickedness
  2. Noah taxes his people while he himself becomes lazy.
  3. Abinadi comes!!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 19 "And now, because of this great victory they were lifted up in the pride of their hearts; they did boast in their own strengh, saying that their fifty could stand against thousands of the Lamanites; and thus they did boast, and did delight in blood, and the shedding of the blood of their brethern, and this because of the wickedness of their king and priests"
It is interesting to see the differences one leader makes. Let us read back a few chapters...

When Zeniff is leading the people this is what they feel about the shedding of blood Mosiah 9:19 "And I, myself, with mine own hands, did help to bury their dead. And behold to our great sorrow and lamentation, two hundred and seventy-night of our brether were slain"
As we are upon election time, it is interesting to see the impact of one person on a whole nation.

Day 29- Mosiah 10

What is happening?
  1. King Lamen dies.
  2. They continue at war. It gets so bad that they send their women and children into the wilderness to hide.
  3. The Lamanites are really wicked, but Zeniff and his people continue to put up a fight.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I really belive that I  need to have the faith of Zeniff. I need to give more faith in the Lord and His power instead of seeking the power of men first. I seem to never learn.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 11 "Now, the Lamanites knew nothing concerning the Lord, nor the strength of the Lord, therefore they depened upon their own strength. Yet they were a strong people, as to the strength of men."
I love that again they tribute everything to the strength of the Lord. They really believe that they are nothing without the Lord. It is just amazing. :)

Day 28- Mosiah 9

What is happening?
  1.  This is a Record of Zeniff. An account of his people, from the time they left the land of Zarahemla until they were delivered out of the hands of the Lamanites.
  2. Zeniff takes a group with him out of Zarahemla to possess the land of Lehi-Nephi.
  3. The Lamanite king permits them to inherit the land, but then trys to take what is theirs. There is a war.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 18 "And God did hear our cries and did answer our prayers;..."
I love this part of the verse so much. I love that they give credit where credit is due. Many times, when people succeed they feel like it is them who succeeded and not God answering their prayers.

Day 28- Mosiah 8

What is happening?
  1. Now Ammon speaks to the people.
  2. Limhi tells Ammon about the plates that were found and no one can translate them.

Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 18 "Thus God has provided a means that man, through faith, might work mighty miracles; therefore he becometh a great benefit to his fellow beings."
I trully feel this way about our prophet today. It is an amazing gift that our Heavenly Father gives to us. I am grateful for a true and living prophet to speak to us.

Day 28- Mosiah 7

What is happening?
  1. Mosiah sends 16 men to find those that went to the land of Lehi-Nephi. Ammon is their leader.
  2. Ammon and his men are put into prison in the land of Shilom.

Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 33 "But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage."
I believe these words to be true. It is amazing. I love it!

Day 28- Mosiah 6

What is happening?
  1. All the people take upon the name of Christ.
  2. King Benjamin consecrates his son Mosiah to be the king.
  3. Mosiah rules in righteousness.

Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 7 "And king Mosiah did cause his people that they should till the earth. And he also, himself, did till the earth, that thereby he might not become burdensome to his people, that he might do according to that which his father had done all things. And there was no contention among all his people for the space of three years."
This is the kind of leader we need. With the election in just a few days, I can't help but think about which one of the canidates willl do this for us. Honestly, there is no way to be sure. We just have to go with the one that we think will be a best leader for us.

Saturday, November 3, 2012

Amen."
:) I love this.

Day 27- Mosiah 4

What is happening?
  1. King Benjamin continues his speach.
  2. He talks about salvation. You must believe in God to be saved.
  3. Do all things in wisdom and order.
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 9 "Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend."
I love this so much. It just shows King Benjamin's temstimony.

We are in this day. The time is now. I am so grateful for the knowledge I have and for the time that I live in. It is just a great time to see the Gospel rolling forth to the whole world. I just hope someday I can be apart of it.

What is happening?
  1. King Benjamin's speech to his people.
  2. He has labored with his own hands to searve them so that they will not have high taxes.
  3. He asks his people to serve God.
How does this apply to my life?
  1. I love all the similarities that I am able to see between this chapter and general conference. It is just amazing to me. The church is true now, just as it was back then.
  2. Heavenly Father will bless us as we keep His commandments.
  3. The Church is true...then what else is there?
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 8 "And it came to pass that he began to speak to his people fromt he tower; and they could not all hear his words because of the greatness of the multitude; therefore he cased that the words which he spake should be written and sent forth among those that were not under the sound of his voice, that htey might also recieve his words."
Oh my gosh! This sounds exactly like our day. I am so greatful for the oportunities that I have to listen to the prophet speak. Everything about this chapter sounds like our day listening to general conference. It is great to see the people cared just as much about hearing the prophet back then as they do now.

Thursday, November 1, 2012

Vs. 17 "Therefore, as they were unfaithful they did not prosper nor progress in their journey, but were driven back, and incurred the displeasure of God upon them; and therefore they were smitten with famine and sore afflictions, to stir them up in remembrance of their duty."
Sometimes I feel like this is me. The moment I do something bad, I feel myself not progressing. It may not even be bad, but just not doing good. I don't like this feeling. I try to do things to progress everyday. Somedays are better than others, but I am working hard on it.

Day 25- Words of Mormon 1

What is happening
  1. Mormon makes an abridgement of the plates.
  2. He includes the original plates of Nephi.
  3. King Benjamin establishes peace.

I love this. Sometimes I wondering of our modern prophets feel this way. I am sure they do. I am sure they don't always know why they are saying the things they are saying, but they do it because they have faith in the Lord. I want to develop this kind of faith where the Lord can use me to accomplish His purposes.
