Day 2- 1 Nephi 5

What is happening?
  1.  Nephi and his brothers return to their family with Zoram.
  2.  Sariah (Nephi's mother) was angry with her husband because he sent their children into the wilderness back to Jeruselum. She questions him and his prophecies. But becomes faithful once more once her sons return.
  3. Lehi reads through the plates of brass that Nephi brough back. They contain a "the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world, and also of Adam and Eve, who were our first parents. And also a record of the Jews from the beginninge, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah; And also the prophies of the holy prophets from the begining even down to the commencement of the rign of Zedekiah; and also many prophecies which had been spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah" as well as a"geneology of his fathers"
How does this apply to my life?
  1.  If I was in Sariah's case, how would I feel?
  2. Lehi shows the attitude that we should feel about the scriptures. As soon as he is able to get his hands on them he reads them. That is just so amazing.
  3. Also, Nephi describes the plate as "great worth unto us". It is ironic that he is talking about how the plates will be such a great worth unto his people, but he doesn't even know the great worth of the plates he is writing unto the people of our day!
Favorite Verse? Why?
Vs. 8 "And she spake, saying: Now I know of a surety that the Lord hath commanded my husband to flee into the wilderness; yeah, and I also know of a surety that the Lord hath protected my sons, and delivered them out of the hands of Laben, and given them power whereby they could accompoish the thing which the Lord hath commanded them. And after this manner of language did she speak."
Here we see Sariah's testimony increase. Now she KNOWS. I love that she is willing to bare her testimony to her children to let them know that she has one. The last line really shows that this isn't all that she said. This was the manner of language that she used. I believe that she probably spend days, weeks and months testifying the truthfulness of her words and being and example to her children. I was lucky enough to have a mother like this and I hope to one day be a mother like this.
